Laura Affolter is a postdoctoral researcher working in the SNF project „Law in Protest: Transnational Struggles for Corporate Liability“. In her research, she looks at the legal struggles against a copper mine which is being developed in the Ecuadorian valley of Íntag.

Laura Affolter obtained her PhD from the University of Bern in 2017. In her dissertation „Protecting the System: Decision-Making in a Swiss Asylum Administration“ she examined everyday processes of decision-making in the first level of the Swiss asylum procedure. She thereby focused on the regularities of asylum decision-making: on the shaping of patterns of practice and on decision-makers’ institutional socialisation.

Laura Affolter’s main research interests include the anthropology of bureaucracy, legal anthropology and the anthropology of migration.
