Melinda Rieder received her CREOLE master’s degree from the Universities of Bern and Ljubljana. She is currently developing a PhD project.

In her master studies she deepened her interest in so-called smart technologies and Artificial Intelligence and how they influence societies. For her MA thesis titled “Small Measurements – Large Issues. Self-Tracking taken up by Swiss Health Insurance Companies’ Bonus Programs” she studied the impact of the quantification of health on individuals and communities.

Another focus is audiovisual anthropology. Her film “Thermoplastische Elastomere. A Christmas Film” (2019) was produced in an advanced film class in her master studies and screened at the ethnographic film festival Regard Bleu and Ethnokino’s festival ‘Beyond Asymmetries’.
