Laura Affolter is a postdoctoral fellow in the Research Group on the Sociology of Law at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research. Before that she worked as researcher and lecturer at the Institute of Social Anthropology in Bern, where she obtained her PhD in 2017. In her dissertation, she examined everyday practices of administrative decision-making in the Swiss Secretariat for Migration. Her current research explores how the rights of nature and buen vivir are negotiated in legal struggles over large-scale mining in Ecuador. Laura Affolter is co-editor of TSANTSA, Journal of the Swiss Anthropological Association.
