Ichsan is a PhD student in the Social Anthropology Department at the University of Bern, working on the Social Ocean Energy: A Social Learning Approach to Global Marine Renewable Infrastructures project. He is supervised by Ass. Prof. Jeanne Féaux de la Croix from the University of Bern and Dr. Rina Mardiana from IPB University. His research centers on Ocean Renewable Energy development and environmental justice in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
Ichsan received his MA in 2015 and BA in 2013 from the Department of Anthropology at Gadjah Mada University. Living with Ngaju Dayak communities in Borneo for more than half a year, his ethnography explores the dynamics of swidden agriculture and how logging road infrastructure impacts the social life of these communities.
His research interests include the anthropology of energy, infrastructures, technology, political ecology, and visual anthropology. In his leisure time, Ichsan enjoys walking, taking photographs of nature, and making sketches. He is currently exploring and learning about medium and large-format photography.
